I have become weary looking at the typical christian church. It’s not my job or intention to judge anyone – but to say the truth about God and to point out errors in an institution I hesitantly consider myself a member of: the church. Here in America, the church is steadily losing ground, focusing on the unimportant and preaching straight-out lies. For our international readers – we could use your prayers!
American churches are really headed in one of two directions by and large. The first is toward a “seeker friendly” church that is big on hype and members. They have all sorts of programs, their preaching fails to challenge, and miracles, healing and the gifts of the Spirit seem all but forgotten.
The other is an overly hard, zealous direction that seems to have a form of godliness, denying its power and trampling under foot the grace by which they have been grafted into Christ. They preach that money atones for sins, doing good works is more important than faith, and fasting (by changing God, not ourselves) increases miracles. They tarry a decade for God to bring revival and never realize the power that is in doing what we’ve already been commanded to do.
There is a third group. I fear for them above measure, and for the world because of them! The third group is a small band of believers who know the truth and passionately pursue more truth. They are constantly being transformed into the likeness of Christ, and marvel at the condition of the church by and large. The problem is, for the most part, this third group is just sitting idly by – making the rest question if their passion and fervor is real or not. Indeed, this group is in the most trouble. You’re responsible for what you know and what you did and did not do with that knowledge.
I am afraid for all of us that in our hesitance, in our apathy, in our hopelessness, we fail to reach the multitudes with the truth that changed our lives. Some people believe in fate. I believe in destiny; and the destiny of countless souls could be hanging in the balance of our decision and direction… and our failure to act.
As most of you know, I’m not trying to condemn you! Love should be your only motivation – never fear!!!! If you go out motivated with fear you will undoubtedly leave even less fulfilled and with a long train of hurt and confused followers. Love doesn’t make followers. Love makes co-laborers. And that is what God wants in us.
